The Oceanscience Group designs and builds a wide range of custom and stock buoys for data acquisition and monitoring. We can design and build buoys of virtually any size.
We provide complete buoy systems, starting with data loggers or onboard PCs. We offer both RF and satellite communications links, including networked and point-to-multipoint systems. We provide a variety of powering options including solar, wind and buoy-motion generators with integrated power management.
Weather Station
We build our own weather station starting with a range of high-quality sensors. The standard Indra weather station includes ultrasonic wind speed and direction, temperature and barometric pressure. The system is expandable for more extensive data suites, including current profiles.
Durable Construction
We design each buoy for its intended purpose. We build buoys in urethane elastomer composite, aluminum, molded polyethylene composite and fiberglass.
Most of our large ocean buoy hulls are of urethane elastomer because of its extreme durability. These buoys are designed to absorb repeated collisions and abrasion for twenty years without sustaining damage. This is the same technology used in large navy-style ship fenders. The core is closed cell resilient (not rigid) foam; the skin is elastomer that’s filament wound with nylon tire cord for toughness. The buoys are virtually indestructible. Colors are molded into the skin for low maintenance.
Our smaller buoys are custom designed and built of either fiberglass or molded polyethylene.
Versatility and Quick Delivery
We have a wide array of existing buoy designs for sensors, antenna arrays, and ADCPs. We can alter these designs or design custom buoys depending on your needs.
